What is Calico Ground?
In Short: Calico Ground is a curated mix of vintage, thrifted, and upcycled pieces for people who don’t fit neatly into boxes. Who recognize that the world is chaos, so they should at least make their own unique.
Some pieces are imperfect.
Some are bold.
Some are simple.
All are chosen with the intention of balancing quality, character, and wearability. We don’t believe great pieces should be priced so high they become untouchable. Clothing is meant to be lived in, not preserved on a shelf. While true vintage and name brand is valued for what it is, this space is built on the idea that special things should still be accessible.
Behind the Name
During the great lockdown of 2020, Nikole spent the majority of that spring at her dad's ranch in Grandview, Texas. At the time, her grandfather figure "Bilbo" lived in a studio apartment built for him in the workshop. She'd often go sit outside of his apartment in the early mornings, and read tarot cards to him while he smoked his Backwoods cigar. It was a dry spring, and the ground was cracked and pocked and showed threads of dirt variating in levels of dryness throughout. They coined the phrase "calico ground" due to its striking resemblance to a calico cat. He said it would be a good band name, and she promised that if she ever started a band that would be it. Her music aspirations never took off, but this seems like something comparable. Calico Ground is named in honor of Billy Clyde Redden, who was proof that chosen family is just as important as blood.
